Peonies in Paris | Chic Lightroom Presets

You’ve heard me say it many times, I’m head over heels for this city! So much so that I decided to create a series of photos to demonstrate just that. I wanted to produce a few imagines that really conveyed how I feel about Paris…The love affair that I have with the architecture, the streets and the culture. These shots were taken on Pont Saint-Louis Bridge in the 4th Arrondissement at 7:30 am. When I originally envisioned these photos in my head, they were at sunset and everything was bathed in a blanket of golden sunlight. If you’ve been to Paris in the summertime, you’ll know that The Seine is lined with thousands of people in the evening just hoping to catch a glimpse of that magical golden hour sunset from one of the many bridges in the city. It can be rather difficult to land any clean shots with so many people lining up to worship the breathtaking view. So, how does one create that golden hour “effect” in the morning you ask? Simple…Chic Presets! I used presets from The Light Leak Collection (“Sun Left” & “Sun Right”) to give me that warm, sunkissed look with a few simple clicks. This collection is also available in The Blogger Pack, along with tons of other exciting chic looks to play with. I included an interactive before & after photo below along with a screenshot that demonstrates how the presets (Graduated filters) work in Lightroom. In the end, I was so pleased with the way these photos turned out that I decided to create a collection of “Sun-Kissed Presets” when I return home in August! Look out for them in the next few months. Happy Editing! Looking for more Presets? The Complete Collection is our most popular product with 480+ Presets & Brushes to discover!

Hello Paris, I’m so happy to be back! Every time I arrive in this beautiful city, I light up inside like a match that’s just been struck against a hard surface and ignited. When I’m at home during the winter, I miss the way that Paris makes me feel. It’s such a strikingly real sensation. I feel like I can be myself here, the real me. The one that I often tuck away and hide from others. I love getting lost in the chaos of this beautiful city. I feel like Paris understands me, in a way that everyone in this world wants to be understood. We took these photos at Palais Royal, a rather charming and historically important location in Paris. This place once belonged to Louis XIV in the late 1600’s. They just don’t create beautiful things like this anymore. For the shoot, we arrived at 7:30 am so that we would have even light for the photos and the whole place to ourselves, or so we thought! When we arrived another photographer was taking pictures of a motorcycle that would be entered into a race in two weeks time. I show up in a motorcycle jacket and sunglasses and a light bulb goes off in his head. They asked me to pose in front of their motorcycle for a few pictures. I laugh at the thought of me on this sleek motorcycle, but I happily oblige so they can grab a few shots. For the edit, I used the “Saint Germain” Lightroom Preset from The Paris Collection! All I can say is that it’s magic! It’s perfect for blog photos or portraits. Check out the interactive before and after shot below! Looking for more presets? The Complete Collection has you covered with hundreds of chic looks to play with! Well, I’ll be spending most of the summer in Paris with lots of trips planned in between. Don’t forget to follow along on Instagram and Facebook for lots of extra behind the scenes content. Happy Editing Everyone!

Cafés & Cappuccinos in Paris

One of my favorite things to do in Paris is to park myself at a café and sip on a frothy cappuccino. We had plans to go to Café de Flore that day, but when we arrived at the popular hot spot, we realized that it was way too crowded for photos. “Oh well…C’est la vie” I thought to myself. I was more than happy to leisurely stroll through the city looking for a new location. We wandered down the street and we immediately stumbled upon Café Louise. The low key atmosphere was a welcome change from the hustle and bustle that surrounded Café de Flore. We ended up having the outdoor patio all to ourselves, which is always a bonus for photography! We grabbed a few shots before we sat back and enjoyed our cappuccinos and crepes. When I’m scouting locations for blog photos, I’m always assessing multiple elements such as the surroundings, the lighting, the backdrop, etc. Once I’m certain that I’ve found an ideal location that works on all levels, we get to work. I love to show the scene from different perspectives and I do this by using a variety of lenses and apertures. I also make a point to take detail shots because I think it gives the audience a closer look and a well-rounded experience. When it comes to editing, I always look to the photos themselves to help me choose a direction. These photos of Café Louise featured dark and neutral tones, which made me realize that I needed to stick to neutral presets. My goal was to enhance the RAW photos rather than adding any fancy tricks that might mess with the dark colors. I settled on the “Glowing” Preset from The Portrait Collection and I used some of my work flow presets to customize the look. I’ve included a video below that shows you the editing process in real time so you can see the presets in action. Enjoy!

If you’ve spent even the smallest amount of time in Paris, you know that patissiers are a common sight in the city. You don’t have to walk very far before you come across a beautiful window display filled with all sorts of tantalizing sweets and treats. It’s one of the reasons why I fall deeper and deeper in love with the city every time I visit. On this particular trip, we decided to have tea and macarons at the lovely Ladurée Tea Salon. When you arrive on the corner of Champs Élysees and Rue Lincoln, you’re met with the beautiful green metal work that you see in the photos and a row of windows filled with the most elegant boxes that you’ve ever laid eyes on! Every inch of the exterior calls to you and invites you in for what is sure to be the best dining experience in Paris. When you set foot inside, your eyes are instantly drawn to the row of macarons, tarts and pastries that are available for take away. We eyed up a few macaron flavors and decided to head upstairs to the sitting rooms. It’s hard not to appreciate the way the salon is designed. Each dining room is themed with its own color palette and furniture inspired by the late 1800’s. We chose the room that featured the signature Ladurée green. We ordered the Marie Antionette tea and selected: Rose Petal, Salted Caramel, Pistachio, Vanilla, Lemon and Chocolate for our macarons. I don’t think that I’ll be able to describe the experience of devouring those little beauties, but I will tell you this: Lovely Ladurée does not disappoint! I highly recommend that you treat yourself to an afternoon of tea the next time you are in Paris.

GET THE LOOK: I used the “Plush” Lightroom Preset from The Portrait Collection to get the subtle blue split toning that you see in all of the photos. Before and after shot below. Looking for more Presets? Check out The Complete Collection.

This story starts somewhere far…far away from this gorgeous hotel room in Paris. This story actually starts at a train station, high up in the Swiss mountains. You must be wondering how this hotel room and the train station are related. Well…let me tell you a little tale about how we turned the worst part of our trip into an experience that I will never forget! It was our final day in Switzerland and we spent the day hiking the Bernese Alps. We were waiting for our train to take us back down to the valley floor when I realized that I hadn’t heard from our Air B&B host in Paris. He told me months prior when I booked that he would provide me with information about the key a few days prior to our arrival. In that moment I decided to commit a deadly sin, one that all travelers will warn you about…I turned on my data plan lol. I was amazed that I got a signal and then…I saw it. “I regret to inform you that I will no longer be able to host you this week…” time stamped 2 hours prior. My heart absolutely shattered! We were leaving on a train for Paris in the morning and we had no place to go when we arrived. If this was any other stop on our Europe trip, I think I would have been a little more level-headed about the whole thing, but this was PARIS! The city that means so much to me…the place that I dream about all year long! I couldn’t believe that this was happening. After about 30 minutes of self-loathing and cursing the host in my head, I realized that we had to roll with the punches. I wasn’t going to let this little disruption ruin my Paris experience. When we arrived back at our hotel on the valley floor, we got straight to work looking for a hotel that would take us with less than 24 hours notice. This proved to be a difficult task as we found out that the European Cup (Soccer) was in town and people from all over the world would be staying in the city at the same time. Finally, we found Hotel La Comtesse. It was a beautiful brand new hotel located just a few blocks away from the Eiffel Tower. We decided that we were going to do this right and opted for a room with a view! I always wanted to stay at a hotel in Paris with a view of the Eiffel Tower, but I could never justify it in my head. This time I said, “I’m going for it!” It was the best decision we ever made. The room itself was gorgeous, the staff was delightful and personal and it was absolutely amazing to fall asleep each night seeing the glow of the Eiffel Tower through the window. It’s the age-old saying: When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade…and sometimes it’s the best damn lemonade you have ever tasted! As always sweet dreams until sunbeams find you!

Free Lightroom Preset Rooftops

Free Lightroom Preset Rooftops

Good morning my lovelies! Today I’m bringing you a brand new Free Lightroom Preset called: Rooftops. If you’ve been following the blog, you must know that I am head over heels in love with Paris…and by extension, the Parisian rooftops! The photo above is a quick snap that I took one afternoon while exploring the 6th district. Whenever I’m in the city, I’m always looking up. I must admit that my obsession with rooftops can be dangerous at times. I’ve been known to stray off the sidewalk a little to get a better view. It isn’t long before I’m in someone’s way or I’m suddenly at risk of being hit by a bicyclist, or worse, a car lol. It’s terrible to say, but those lovely rooftops are worth the risk. I can’t help but take the time to appreciate the thought that went into the design, the skill that went into the construction and the goal of creating something beautiful that guided it all. Lately, I’ve been finding myself drawn to washed out, over exposed images. There’s something about the imperfection of a bright sky or a washed out building that’s been inspiring to me lately. I created “Rooftops” to fulfill my desire for a preset that creates the look I’ve been drawn to. Click here to be directed to the download page and try it yourself! Looking for more Chic Presets? Check out The Complete Collection. Well…I’m on my way to grab a coffee and take a stroll by the river. We have to take advantage of these last few days of summer. Come back and see me on Tuesday for another travel diary post. This week it’s back to London for tea, delicious treats and more pink than you could ever imagine! You won’t want to miss this one 😉 Have yourself a wonder weekend and as always…sweet dreams until sun beams find you!

A Windy Day in Paris

It was a windy summer morning when we emerged from our hotel that day. The city was quiet and the streets were bare. I walked around with a bounce in my step and the breeze blowing through my hair. I love Paris in the morning! It’s the only time when you can have the city all to yourself! During the day, the city is full…like a glass of water that’s been filled to the rim. You roam from street to street and find yourself lost in a sea of people. Not in the morning…in the morning, you finally experience the quiet elegance that you’ve been yearning for. That romantic feeling that’s been calling to you ever since you first laid eyes on this breathtaking place. In the morning, you see the real Paris. I strolled around that day as if I had a whimsical soundtrack playing gently to me in my head. We decided to stop at Pont Alexandre III to take a few photos. This bridge is my favorite place to visit. I don’t feel like I’m in Paris until I’ve walked across it at least once. For me, it represents everything that the city stands for, beauty, passion and the pursuit of personal pleasures! It was so nice to see my beloved Paris the way I always see it in my head.

Until later in the week…as always, sweet dreams until sun beams find you!

Place Vendome, Paris

You’ll have to forgive me, I seem to be having a bit of a Grace Kelly moment in these photos taken at Place Vendome in Paris, France. There’s something about Paris that makes me smile a bit brighter, and sometimes that translates into a full out sashay in front of the camera lol. In my opinion, Place Vendome is the best-kept secret in Paris (many tourists go to Champs Élysées to shop), and it’s also the best place for photographs! With its grand architecture, couture boutiques, and timeless elegance, it’s definitely on my do not miss list! The square itself is so vast and airy that we had no trouble making it look like we were the only ones there. In reality, we were shooting around: pedestrians, traffic (cars go straight through the square) and construction workers. They were working on the Vendome Column, which is a bronze monument erected by Napoleon in the 1800’s located in the center of the square. Somehow…none of this distracted me. In my mind, I was in my own personal fairy tale…floating around as if I were about to break out into song at any moment lol. That’s what Paris does to me…I am absolutely enthralled by its charm.

When it came to editing, I wanted a subtle look for the shoot. Nothing too stylized or dramatic. After all, the setting itself is enough to make these photos wildly exciting. I decided to use a “Matte” finish preset to give the photos a silky, commercial look. Next, I tried something new by increasing the whites to an extreme and decreasing the blacks for a bit of contrast. Finally, I played with noise reduction to give the shots a touch of luminosity. Looking for Lightroom Presets? Check out The Complete Collection with 347 chic looks (including “Matte”) to play with. Well…I must be on my way. I hope you enjoyed all the chic this week! See you soon for another Free Lightroom Preset Post….Au Revior my lovelies!

I’ve been dreaming about this moment for years…Pastel balloons in front of the Eiffel Tower was always #1 on my photography bucket list! When we started planning our trip across Europe this summer, I realized that this was the perfect opportunity to make this life long dream of mine a reality. It was 6:30 am on the third day of our stay that we arrived at the Trocadéro steps to take these photos. A lot of thought and preparation went into making my sweet little dream come true. Purchasing balloons on the other side of the city, transporting them in the rain (Thank goodness for Uber Vans!) and storing them in our hotel room overnight as staff members looked on in laughter was quite the adventure! lol All of the trouble to get these balloons became more than worth it as we set out towards the Eiffel Tower that morning. As we walked down the beautiful streets of Paris, the balloons were providing a bit of fun for the locals. I can’t even tell you how many people flashed brilliant smiles or stopped us to say a quick hello. It was almost as if the balloons were creating a way for us to connect with the people around us. The Eiffel Tower and balloons seem to be inextricably linked in my mind. Maybe it’s because the tower was built as the entrance to the 1889 World’s Fair…or maybe because they represent the fun, light-hearted spirit that Paris is known for…

Once we set up the equipment and I stepped in front of the camera, I realized just how lucky I was to be in Paris with the love of my life. You see…Paris means more to me than just another stop on our Europe trip. For me…the city of lights represents freedom. The first time I visited France a few years ago, something inside me changed. It’s difficult to put the feelings that I had into words, but I will attempt to. At the risk of sounding cliché, it was like traveling to France allowed me to switch to a wide angle lens… to see the world on a larger scale. For years I had only seen a little piece of the world and at times, I felt trapped by how small my surroundings had become. As I’ve shared in previous posts, Paris is built on a foundation of passion and beauty! It radiates from the architecture, the streets, the people…even the food! Something about its undeniable charm provides me with unlimited inspiration. When I used to dream about this shoot, I always imagined it in a soft pastel color. For my Lightroom edit, I used a number of presets and brushes from The Complete Collection to achieve this silky, vintage-inspired look. First, I used the *Ever After” preset to get that sharp/defined look that you see throughout the photos. Next, I layered a “Vintage” and a “Chic Color” finish preset (finish presets are included in all chic collections) that washed out the saturation and added split toning. Finally, I finished off each photo with my Chic Makeup Brushes and Paint Brushes from The Brush Collection. The process gave me photos that were crisp and defined, yet at the same time, incredibly soft and elegant!  Before and after below…

Pastel Paris Chic Lightroom Presets & Brushes

When we were finished with the shoot, we noticed that a number of other photographers had arrived to take wedding portraits in front of the tower. I walked over to a bride that had been eyeing up the balloons and offered them to her under one condition, that she would pass them along to the other couples that were there once she was finished. She was elated with my gift and promised to make sure that anyone who wanted to use them in their photos would get the chance. I walked away with a grin on my face, happy to know that those beautiful pastel balloons would provide joy and excitement far beyond the photos that you see here today. Until my next travel post…as always…sweet dreams until sun beams find you!
