Peonies in Paris | Chic Lightroom Presets

Peonies in Paris | Chic Lightroom Presets

You’ve heard me say it many times, I’m head over heels for this city! So much so that I decided to create a series of photos to demonstrate just that. I wanted to produce a few imagines that really conveyed how I feel about Paris…The love affair that I have with the architecture, the streets and the culture. These shots were taken on Pont Saint-Louis Bridge in the 4th Arrondissement at 7:30 am. When I originally envisioned these photos in my head, they were at sunset and everything was bathed in a blanket of golden sunlight. If you’ve been to Paris in the summertime, you’ll know that The Seine is lined with thousands of people in the evening just hoping to catch a glimpse of that magical golden hour sunset from one of the many bridges in the city. It can be rather difficult to land any clean shots with so many people lining up to worship the breathtaking view. So, how does one create that golden hour “effect” in the morning you ask? Simple…Chic Presets! I used presets from The Light Leak Collection (“Sun Left” & “Sun Right”) to give me that warm, sunkissed look with a few simple clicks. This collection is also available in The Blogger Pack, along with tons of other exciting chic looks to play with. I included an interactive before & after photo below along with a screenshot that demonstrates how the presets (Graduated filters) work in Lightroom. In the end, I was so pleased with the way these photos turned out that I decided to create a collection of “Sun-Kissed Presets” when I return home in August! Look out for them in the next few months. Happy Editing! Looking for more Presets? The Complete Collection is our most popular product with 480+ Presets & Brushes to discover!

Palais Royal | Chic Lightroom Presets

Hello Paris, I’m so happy to be back! Every time I arrive in this beautiful city, I light up inside like a match that’s just been struck against a hard surface and ignited. When I’m at home during the winter, I miss the way that Paris makes me feel. It’s such a strikingly real sensation. I feel like I can be myself here, the real me. The one that I often tuck away and hide from others. I love getting lost in the chaos of this beautiful city. I feel like Paris understands me, in a way that everyone in this world wants to be understood. We took these photos at Palais Royal, a rather charming and historically important location in Paris. This place once belonged to Louis XIV in the late 1600’s. They just don’t create beautiful things like this anymore. For the shoot, we arrived at 7:30 am so that we would have even light for the photos and the whole place to ourselves, or so we thought! When we arrived another photographer was taking pictures of a motorcycle that would be entered into a race in two weeks time. I show up in a motorcycle jacket and sunglasses and a light bulb goes off in his head. They asked me to pose in front of their motorcycle for a few pictures. I laugh at the thought of me on this sleek motorcycle, but I happily oblige so they can grab a few shots. For the edit, I used the “Saint Germain” Lightroom Preset from The Paris Collection! All I can say is that it’s magic! It’s perfect for blog photos or portraits. Check out the interactive before and after shot below! Looking for more presets? The Complete Collection has you covered with hundreds of chic looks to play with! Well, I’ll be spending most of the summer in Paris with lots of trips planned in between. Don’t forget to follow along on Instagram and Facebook for lots of extra behind the scenes content. Happy Editing Everyone!

The Blue Lagoon | Chic Lightroom Presets

These photos were taken at The Blue Lagoon in Iceland! This Lagoon has been on my mind ever since we booked our plane tickets to Iceland a few months back. The crystal blue water and the harsh volcanic rock is definitely a sight to see! Iceland is actually a country that was formed from a volcanic eruption. The Blue Lagoon is located smack dab in the middle of a dried up lava field. The water is filled with rich minerals, which is apparently fantastic for your skin. The lagoon water is heated by a geothermal power plant near by. (Travelling Quick Tip: You have to pre-order your tickets to the blue lagoon and they go fast! If you show up without a ticket you won’t be able to go in. I learned this the hard way! lol) One thing that I hadn’t accounted for was the amount of people that would also be luxuriating in the silky blue water. We had to be very creative in order to get a few clean shots without other bathers in the background. Most of the larger photos were taken of the smaller pools that surround the lagoon, the part that you can’t swim in. But for fantasy sake, let’s just pretend that I had the whole place to myself, shall we? lol It’s so much more fun that way! I ended up using The Blogger Pack to edit this shoot. I chose the “Aesthetic” Lightroom Preset to give it that signature Chic Presets Look. I also used my Chic Lightroom Brushes that come with The Blogger Pack to clean up any spots that needed a little extra attention. (Looking for more Presets? – Check out The Complete Collection with over 400 presets) Before & After photos below! Well, I hope you enjoyed this dip into the warm volcanic waters! Stay tuned for more travel photoshoots!

Toronto Waterfront | Chic Lightroom Presets

Toronto is a city that I hold near and dear to my heart! It’s always been an exciting international location, but in the last 5-10 years, it’s really started to shine as a city with a vibrant progressive culture and modern architecture. The waterfront area is the best place to catch a shot of the city skyline. (Side note – It’s even more beautiful at night, but I digress.) The skyline is predominantly comprised of blues, grays, blacks & whites thanks to all of the modern glass buildings and condos that have been sprouting like wildflowers recently. The water adds an additional hit of blue and makes for an exceptionally cohesive backdrop for photos. We arrived in this spot early enough to have it all to ourselves on this sunny April morning. These photos were shot on a Canon 5D MkII camera with a 50mm and a 24-105mm lens. For the edit, I wanted to exclusively use brushes from The Brush Collection. Sometimes you just want a subtle splash of editing here and there and that’s where this collection can really shine. I used some of my basic brushes – (Brighten 2 & Soften 2) to get that soft blue sky look. Then I used some of my makeup brushes (Teeth Whiten 1, Lips & Pink, Skin Smooth 1) to edit my complexion. I also used some of my other basic brushes (Enhance & Sharpen 2) on the title photo and the portrait oriented skyline shot below to get that crisp/defined look in the buildings. The result is a natural looking edit with subtle enhancements that compliment the original untouched shots. Looking for more presets? The Complete Collection has got you covered with hundreds of chic looks to play with, including the brushes that I mentioned! If you ever find yourself in Toronto, take a trip down to the waterfront and grab some shots, you won’t regret it. Happy Editing!

Amsterdam | Chic Lightroom Presets

The canal district in Amsterdam is a beautiful place to explore during the summer. We stayed in town for three night as part of our whirlwind trip across Europe. We spent our time with cameras in hand searching for unique bicycles (there were so many to choose from) vintage cars and Dutch architecture. When we weren’t taking pictures, we were perched in coffee shop windows enjoying cappuccinos and Dutch desserts. We have a friend in town who took us on a bicycle tour of the canals and brought us to a trendy restaurant in the Pijp neighborhood for tapas and Dutch brewed beer! It didn’t take me long to realize that the city was built with brick and mortar. The canal district has a very distinct color palette of brown, beige and black with a little hunter green thrown in here and there. When I started looking for presets to use on my Amsterdam photos, I took a cue from the city itself and chose The Cappuccino Collection. This collection includes 65 toasty presets that give you that hipster, coffee lover look! The Lightroom Preset that you will see across all of the photos today is called “French Roast.” It’s a delicate mix of clarity, matte and temperature adjustments. (Looking for more presets? Don’t forget to check out The Complete Collection with hundreds of looks to play with.) The French Roast preset gave me that warm/effortless look that I was going for with a few simple clicks. If you’re interested in watching me edit these photos in real time, I will be posting a behind the scenes editing video with actual footage that we shot in Amsterdam later in the week. Enjoy a little trip through the canals on me! Happy Editing!

Desert Day Dream | Chic Lightroom Presets

Desert Day Dream | Chic Lightroom Presets

When we decided to travel to the Nevada desert, I’ll admit, I had no idea what I was in for. I’ve seen all of the classic old western movies and I’ve admired it from afar through starlet infused pop music videos, but until I saw the desert in person, I didn’t fully appreciate it’s sheer beauty! While driving back to Arizona, we dipped into Utah to do some exploring. We happened upon this small empty parking lot on the side of the highway and decided to stop to stretch our legs. The parking lot housed a small sign that read: “Toadstool Trail.” We immediately looked at each other and proclaimed in unison, “Jackpot!” This was one of the places that we wanted to photograph but had decided against it in order to focus on more well-known locations. How perfect was it that we just happened to stop there out of the blue? I immediately started hunting for an outfit in my suitcase to change into (I don’t usually hike in an outfit like this one, but I’ll do anything to bring you guys a great shot!) As we set out on the trail I found so many amazing things to photograph; plants, tumbleweeds, mountains, and toadstool rock formations! It was a photography gold mine! I knew that I would be launching a collection of Lightroom Light Leaks soon and I realized that this was the perfect opportunity to show them off. So without further ado, enjoy a little desert sunshine with the help of my beautiful Lightroom Light Leaks! Love the look? Take a little detour to the shop for more before and after photos from The Light Leak Collection!  Don’t forget to check out my behind the scenes video where you can watch me edit these shots in real time.

Rome, Italia

Rome, Italia Chic Lightroom Presets

Rome…a place where color meets concrete! First, I have a confession to make. I may or may not have a ridiculous, over the top obsession with Rome. Second, this obsession may or may not have stemmed from watching a little movie starring Julia Roberts called Eat Pray Love. Cue the exasperated groans and subsequent eye rolls lol. I know…I know! I get that Rome is so much more than a place for single American girls to find themselves, but I just couldn’t help but fall in love with the city through the eyes of the main character, Elizabeth Gilbert. Eat Pray Love showed me that there is beauty and passion in this world far beyond the borders of my own country. I remember watching it for the first time in the theater and having this overwhelming feeling that I needed to get my butt to Italy. That energy, the feeling of desire and yearning to travel had nowhere to go for many years…until I finally fulfilled that dream this past summer. (Check out my other Roman adventures: Here!) When we arrived in Rome for the first time, you better believe that I was going to make the most of it. I ran around tirelessly photographing everything that I could get my hands on, architecture, alleyways, skylines and food! Ohhh…the food! God bless the Italian cuisine! These photos were shot with a Canon EOS 5D camera, accompanied by a 50mm & a 24-105mm lens. For this shoot, I was going for a crisp look with lots of vibrancy and definition. I ended up using the “Fearless” Lightroom Preset from The Blogger Collection to edit these shots. Stay tuned for a video later in the week where I will show you from start to finish how I edited these images. Now…cue the Eat Pray Love inspired photos, and don’t let your mouth water too much when you pass over those pizza/pasta shots! Ciao for now darling!

Vintage Las Vegas

“Bright light city gonna set my soul, gonna set my soul on fire!”

Elvis Presley said it best, Las Vegas is so amazing, it will literally set your soul on fire! And if you’re a vintage photography lover like me, get ready to fan those flames! Instead of talking about my trip today, (you can read my last travel post called: Viva Las Vegas where I gushed about how much fun I had in the city) I’ve decided to talk about the creative process behind the photoshoot. These photos were taken on Fremont St, a historically preserved area of the city. When I travel, I always research the places that I’m visiting before I leave. I scour the internet looking for interesting locations that will provide beautiful backdrops for my shoots. I look for architecture, unique streets and anything that lends itself to a bright and chic aesthetic. Once I have a number of desirable locations in mind, I plan out my time around the shoots. For example, when we were in Las Vegas, I knew that I wanted to produce at least two travel posts about the city. We were only in town for three nights, therefore we needed to be extra careful about when we chose to shoot our photos. I always take things like lighting, time of day and the amount of foot traffic into consideration. I usually like to shoot fairly early in the morning or just before sunset to satisfy all of the factors that I shared. Next, I collect photos from the internet and create a whimsy inspiration board. For this shoot, I pulled vintage images of women in Las Vegas from the 1950’s and 60’s along with a few modern photos with a similar feel. Finally, I think about wardrobe, angles, poses, and lenses that I want to use. These photos were shot with a Canon EOS 5D camera, accompanied by a 50mm & a 24-105mm lens. After we arrive home from the trip, I get to work on the editing process. For this shoot, I was going for a modern meets vintage feel. I wanted the photos to have a nod to the past with the light leaks and the faded colors, but still maintain a fresh/youthful look. I used the “Art Deco” (wrong era, I know, but that’s what I named the preset when I created it! lol) preset from The Vintage Collection to provide some definition to the photos, add in split toning and fade some of the colors. Next, I layered in a few light leaks to give it that playful look that I mentioned. Finally, I came in with some of my Chic Makeup Brushes from The Brush Collection to soften skin, whiten teeth and further enhance the shots. (Looking for more Lightroom Presets? Check out my premium product, The Complete Collection! ) In the end, I was happy with how the final images flowed together to create one cohesive look. Well, I hope you enjoyed hearing about the creative process behind this Vegas shoot. Stay tuned for more photos and behind the scenes edits later in the week.

On the Edge – The Grand Canyon

Don’t worry, the vest is faux! This shoot is conveniently titled “On the Edge.” Not only am I literally sitting on the edge of The Grand Canyon, but we’re also on the edge of a brand new year, so it seemed only fitting to release these photos today. As you already know, we flew out to Nevada last month in search of beautiful landscapes and exciting things to photograph. The Grand Canyon was definitely one of the highlights of the trip! When we arrived at the South Rim of the canyon, we were immediately surprised to see snow on the ground. We drove in from Las Vegas where it was fairly warm, and now here we were, experiencing freezing temperatures and snow! That’s the desert for you, you never know if you’ll be sweating or shivering until you get there. We woke up entirely too early one day to get these shots in the morning sunlight. Just getting to this peak was an adventure in itself. We had to dodge ice patches, hold on to branches and jump from rock to rock to reach the edge. I was more than happy to take a seat and steady myself after that trek.  Once I had my bearings and I was no longer afraid that I would fall, I looked out and really allowed myself to take it all in. One of the things that surprised me the most about the canyon was the beautiful range of color. I was expecting oranges and yellows, but I also found reds, blues, magentas and purples. The scene quite literally took my breath away…I’d never seen something so vast and magnificent! Being on the edge of something this incredible really makes you sit back and reflect on life. We shared a few moments of quiet reflection and gratitude before we started shooting.

For the editing processes, I really wanted the canyon to be the star of the show, so I decided to use The Landscape Collection. Usually, I don’t recommend using this collection for photos with people in them, but if you’re careful to remove some of the clarity and contrast around the face of your subject, you can achieve a balanced look. After testing out a few of the presets in The Landscape Collection, I finally settled on the “Skyline” Preset. Next, I layered a “Faded” Preset over the photo to give it that washed out/cinematic look. Finally, I boosted the exposure and came in with some of my chic makeup brushes from The Brush Collection. I created a quick Transformation VIDEO below! When I was finished with the edit, I stepped back and looked at the photos again with fresh eyes. I loved the sandy/vintage look that I created and I couldn’t wait to share it with all of you. Well, I hope that you enjoyed the scenery this week. Don’t forget to follow along on Instagram and Facebook for new travel diaries, tutorials and FREE presets. Happy 2017!
